When Should You Start Waxing for the Best Results?

If you're thinking about waxing for a holiday, wedding or special occasion, you might be wondering...

When should I actually start waxing?

The answer is probably earlier than you think.

Many people book a wax a few days before they go on holiday and expect long-lasting results. While you'll still get smooth skin, one wax alone won't give you the full benefits of regular waxing.

If you want finer regrowth, longer-lasting results and a more comfortable wax, consistency is the key.

Why one wax isn't enough

Hair doesn't all grow at the same time.

At any one moment, different hairs are at different stages of their growth cycle. That means some hairs are ready to be removed, while others are still developing beneath the skin and won't be visible yet.

This is why you might notice new hairs appearing just a week or two after your first wax. It doesn't mean the wax hasn't worked—those hairs simply weren't ready to be removed.

With regular waxing, we gradually catch more hairs at the right stage of growth, giving you smoother skin for longer.

When is the best time to start?

Ideally, around three months before you want your best results.

That gives your hair enough time to become more synchronised, meaning more hairs are removed during the same appointment.

Starting in autumn or winter is often ideal because you're usually covering up more, making it much easier to grow the hair to the right length between appointments.

By the time summer arrives, you'll already be into a regular waxing routine.

A quick look at the hair growth cycle

Every hair goes through three stages.

Anagen (Growing Phase)

This is the best time for waxing.

The hair is actively growing and attached firmly to the follicle. Removing hairs during this stage often leads to slower, finer regrowth over time.

Catagen (Transition Phase)

Growth begins to slow, and the hair starts to detach from its blood supply.

Some hairs in this stage may not come away as easily during waxing.

Telogen (Resting Phase)

This is the resting stage before the hair naturally sheds.

New hairs may already be developing underneath, which is why you can sometimes notice regrowth even though your wax was successful.

How to get the best results from waxing

Getting the best results isn't about one perfect wax—it's about building a routine.

Here's what we recommend:

Book your appointments regularly. New clients usually benefit from waxing every 3–4 weeks to begin with, before moving to every 4–6 weeks.

Let your hair grow to around the length of a grain of rice before your appointment.

Avoid shaving between waxes, as this interrupts the hair growth cycle we're trying to establish.

Exfoliate and moisturise regularly to keep your skin healthy and reduce the chance of ingrown hairs.

If you're unsure when to book, just ask. We'll help you find a schedule that works for your hair growth.

Final thoughts

The best time to start waxing isn't the week before your holiday—it's a few months beforehand.

The earlier you begin, the more chance your hair has to settle into a regular growth cycle, giving you smoother skin, longer-lasting results and a more comfortable waxing experience.

If you've never been waxed before, don't worry. We'll guide you through the process and help you build a routine that works for you.
